HIKES
Each year the Heinze Fund sponsors a series of "Spring Fling" and "Fall Spring" hikes to important natural areas in the region. Special hikes, often to preserves not usually open to the public, are also offered. Each hike is led by an outstanding authority on local flora and fauna. Because of the fragile nature of the areas we visit, and because we want each participant to get the most out of his/her experience, numbers are strictly limited.

Hike schedules are announced in the spring and fall issues of our newsletter, Heinze Sights. Contact the Fund office for more information.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
The Heinze Fund has a wealth of expertise to share on the natural history of the Dunes Region. We are always ready to work with local schools, community and social groups on environmental programs. Give us a call, and weíll see how we can help each other.

PUBLICATIONS
We are the proud publishers of three books on the Indiana Dunes and its natural and cultural history:

  • Up and Down the Dunes, by Emma Bickham Pitcher
  • Birds of the Indiana Dunes, by Kenneth J. Brock
  • The Indiana Dunes Story: How Nature and People Made a Park, edited by Joan Gibb Engel
All three books are available for sale at Dunes area bookstores or through the Heinze Fund office.

We also publish a biannual Newsletter, Heinze Sights, which highlights our activities and opportunities for your participation in our preservation efforts. Contact the office for your copy!
